“Who did it?” was the question in CJC Drama Society Play, the Scarlet Silhouette, put up on 13 May at the SJI performing arts centre. There was no short of marveling the excellent satirizing of typical Singaporean ‘figures’ like an amorous maid and rich ‘tai-tai’ by both teachers and fellow Cjcians. The hour plus play revolved around the vicious murder of a certain Miss Lee Bong Kiok and the main question of who could the murderer be. With a psychopathic murderer on the loose, suspense and tension was high throughout the play. And yet in the midst of such high tension, the actors managed to insert many comic relieves in their production which caused the audience to rock with laughter.
The secretive owner of scarlet manor, a schizophrenic girl and a mysteriously anonymous Indian man, all of whom were suspected of murder, but who would have expected that sudden twist at the end - no one could have guessed it. For it was the sergeant herself who committed the gruesome crime. A thrilling and entertaining performance indeed, the CJC drama society should definitely be given another big round of applause!
